Coaches' Corner

Coaches are the cornerstone of our volunteer league. We truly could not do it without you!

Each team requires 2-3 coaching staff for a season to run smoothly, which may include the following:
- Coach (1-2, required)
- Assistant Coach (Optional, unless there is only one coach)
- Parent Helper (Optional, except for 4U teams)
*Parent helpers step in when the coach/assistant coach need support, or if they cannot make it to a game.

In-person coach training is provided prior to each season--this is optional for experienced coaches.  Here is the Coach Handout which outlines the training session.

Please review the Rules and Conduct above for your age division prior to the season.

Coaches are responsible for equipment pick up and return.

All coaching staff require a clear Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector, which can be obtained at our local RCMP detachment.  Screening must be repeated every three (3) years for as long as you are a volunteer with Balgonie Soccer.

Ref Resources

Referees (or officials) keep soccer safe, fair, and fun. They enforce the rules, control the match, monitor safety, and keep games flowing properly. Many of our referees are soccer players themselves, and take on the role as one of their first paying positions.

Referees must be at least 12 years old to register.

Pay starts at minimum wage, increasing with every two seasons of experience.

Referees are trained and knowledgeable about the game, but they are also (usually) kids who are doing their best and gaining experience in real time. Be kind and supportive and always follow the Code of Conduct when interacting with them.

Ref Clinics are held prior to each season, free of charge, with both theory and practical components. These clinics are hosted by Regina Interzone and details are communicated through our local Ref Coordinator.
